ArcheAge Chronicles will happily let you walk past a free quest, a free glider and a permanent health boost without saying a word. This ArcheAge Chronicles gameplay walkthrough exists so that does not happen to you. The game entered Steam Early Access on November 3, 2026, and it hides many of its best early rewards away from your quest markers. Below, you will learn which class to pick, where to find the hidden quest near your first village, how to get your glider and mount, how stats and gear upgrades work, and when PvP is worth the risk. First, here is the short version for anyone with the game already installing.

⚡ Quick Answer

Pick a class by combat style, then explore instead of chasing markers. Do the hidden ledger quest at Watchtower of Hope, activate Nui Statues, collect Nui Tears, unlock your glider, and follow the Silent Crossway quests to Well-Earned Reward for your first mount. Upgrade gear you plan to keep, and only enter Conflict Channels when you accept the risk.

What Should You Know Before Starting ArcheAge Chronicles?

ArcheAge Chronicles is an open world action MMORPG set in Auroria, 50 years after the original game. It swaps the old large scale fighting for solo and small party action built around dodges, parries and weapon combos. You buy it once, with no subscription, and you can get it on Steam for $29.99 in North America.

📊 Key Stat: Early Access launches with 3 regions, 4 classes and 8 weapons. The developers estimate about 10 hours of content per region, or roughly 30 hours in total, and expect Early Access to last 9 to 12 months.

Two launch decisions deserve a minute of your time before you press Create Character:

  • Your server is a commitment: characters cannot transfer between servers during Early Access, and players on different servers cannot play together. Agree on one with your friends first, unless you enjoy long distance friendships.
  • Your account stays yours: Steam Family Sharing is not supported, so nobody in the house can borrow your copy.

Which ArcheAge Chronicles Class Should Beginners Choose?

Choose the combat style you will enjoy for 30 hours, not whichever class a launch week tier list crowns today. Each class has two weapons right now, and you press Q by default to switch between the two you have equipped.

Class Early Access Weapons Best For
Warrior Longsword, Greatsword Players who like reading melee attacks, guarding and dodging
Ranger Hatchet, Longbow Beginners who want both close and long range options
Berserker Axe and Shield, Warhammer Players who want a heavy frontline role
Mage Elemental Staff, Wavesword Players comfortable managing stamina while casting

Classes are gender locked at launch, which has annoyed plenty of players. A female Warrior and a third Warrior weapon, the Gladius, are planned for the first update in December. Other classes will follow one at a time. Early Access is still moving, and the studio has been direct about how it plans to set priorities:

"We will always prioritize community feedback and tackle what matters most first."

How Do You Play the First Hours of ArcheAge Chronicles?

The opening teaches the rules that will keep you alive later, so do not mash your way through it. Your first test is the Herald Knight, the boss at the end of the Recalling Grounds tutorial. Learn these basics there:

  • Heavy attacks can break an enemy's guard.
  • Red warning attacks cannot be blocked normally, so respond to them properly or enjoy the floor.
  • Dodging costs stamina, so spending it all on attacks leaves you with no escape.
  • Long attack animations make it harder to react when the enemy starts another swing.

Find the Hidden Pirate Ledger Quest at Watchtower of Hope

Most of your EXP comes from quests, discoveries and points of interest rather than monster kills, so exploring is also the fastest way to level. Your first reward is close to where you arrive:

  1. Turn back at Watchtower of Hope: after the tutorial, head back into the village instead of rushing down the road.
  2. Go down the stairs: look for a gap that leads into a cave.
  3. Deal with the pirate: the cave pirate gives you a ledger.
  4. Visit Guard Gareth: hand over the ledger for experience and gold.

When I went through launch footage and player reports for this guide, this quest stuck with me because it sums up the whole game. It sits moments from your starting point, and nothing on the map points to it. I would have marched straight past it, feeling very productive and missing the point entirely. That is why I treat every odd staircase in this game as a personal invitation.

Activate Nui Statues and Collect Nui Tears

Touch every Nui Statue you find. Statues act as return points, offer travel and utility options, and can restore consumables. They also turn Nui Tears into permanent max HP. Each upgrade costs a few more tears than the last, so grab them whenever you see one. There is a statue near Watchtower of Hope and another at Wayfaring Camp.

Learn Potions and Hunting Early

The early life skill quests look skippable, but they supply your healing. Hunter Harai sends you to gather Roseberries, which lead into Lifeflow Potions, and a hunting knife lets you skin wildlife for raw meat and leather. Buy tools when a task needs them, because extra tools add to your carried load.

💡 Pro Tip: Search the corners of every point of interest. At Benedictus Shrine, for example, a hidden item called Fio's Oak Barrel is easy to miss. Chests open once per character, so you never have to race other players for them.

How Do You Unlock the Glider and Mount in ArcheAge Chronicles?

Getting Your First Glider

  1. Start the quest: explore the coast behind Wayfaring Camp until you reach Scaling the Tower and the researcher studying the ruins.
  2. Equip it: open your Bag, equip Flite's Prototype Glider and assign it to a quick slot.
  3. Launch from height: use a proper jumping point and aim for the Sunken Ruins.
  4. Look around after landing: check the area for another Nui Statue and a Nui Tear.

This first glider has modest airtime, so use landing spots between long crossings. If it refuses to deploy, check your quick slot before repeating the same jump and the same mistake.

⚠️ Important: This game has player body collision. In crowded launch spots, other players can push you off a ledge and into the water. Launch week tourists are now an environmental hazard.

Getting Your First Mount

  1. Follow Donella's quests: these bring you into the Bluesalt Brotherhood and unlock its board.
  2. Head to Silent Crossway: keep following the quests in this area.
  3. Clear the bandit camp: fight through the ambush and defeat the camp's boss.
  4. Finish the conversations: continue the follow-up dialogue until you complete Well-Earned Reward.

How Do Stats, Traits and Gear Upgrades Work?

Progression here is less straightforward than in most MMOs, because levels only cover part of it.

  • Stat points: you get 3 per level to spend across Strength, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence, Talent and Endurance. The labels do not explain much, so put in a point and check the preview on the character screen before you commit.
  • Trait points: these come from Raeven's Coilstones, not from leveling. Each Coilstone sits near a powerful boss, and each weapon has its own trait tree.
  • Hersander's Tower: each zone has riddles that ask for specific items. Solve them for a unique accessory, then unlock a timed fight against a stronger zone boss.
  • Potion capacity: you start with 4 potions, and books found in the world can raise that limit. Treat every bookshelf as a possible snack upgrade.

Enhancement Success Rates

Blacksmiths upgrade your gear with Tempering Stones. Weapons and armor use separate stones, and the odds drop quickly:

Upgrade Level Success Rate Beginner Advice
+1 100% Costs 1 stone, and it is a safe upgrade for gear you will keep
+2 60% Save this for your main weapon
+3 30% Wait until you have spare stones and a long term item

Here is my take: stamina is the stat beginners should think about first. Basic attacks, spells and dodges all compete for the same bar, so a character with stamina to spare has more chances to attack and escape. That is why one solid early armor mix uses two movement speed pieces and two stamina pieces. You stay in the fight longer and reach safety faster. A shiny +3 sword cannot help much if you are too tired to swing it.

Should Beginners Start Trading and Crafting Right Away?

Start once you have your mount and have seen the Bluesalt Brotherhood board. The board builds your standing with the group and introduces activities beyond fighting, including cargo routes that earn money. Workstations cover tailoring, cooking, smelting, refining, engineering, weapons, armor, blacksmithing and alchemy.

Early on, craft what solves your next problem, usually potions and gear upgrades. Reliable profit numbers for trade routes are still scarce this soon after launch, so be wary of anyone promising the perfect gold route on day two.

How Does PvP Work in ArcheAge Chronicles Gameplay?

PvP is opt in. Each zone splits into channels, and players cannot attack each other in standard ones. In a Conflict Channel, anyone outside your party and guild can attack you. You switch at a Nui Statue by choosing Move to Conflict Channel, and a cooldown stops you from hopping away mid fight.

The reward is a 10 to 15 percent EXP bonus on monster kills. The cost is that dying can take some of your experience and currency, and killing players currently offers little beyond bragging rights. While you are still learning boss patterns, I would stay in standard channels. Try Conflict Channels once you can afford to lose a little and would like some company that actively hates you.

Is ArcheAge Chronicles Worth Playing Right Now?

📊 Key Stat: On launch day, Steam reviews sat at Mixed with 54% positive from 752 reviews, while about 17,500 people were playing at once on the morning after launch.

Those numbers match the divided reaction. Players like the fair price, the scenery, the parry driven boss fights and finding quests by exploring. Complaints focus on frame drops, memory related crashes, quest bugs, stamina use, short staff range and equipped gear that does not change your character's appearance.

Check your PC before buying. Minimum specs ask for 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600, and they target only 30 FPS at 1080p on Low. Recommended specs ask for 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB or RX 7700 XT. You also need an SSD and 100 GB of free space. If the game stutters, start with upscaling, medium shadows, and motion blur and camera shake turned off.

If you want a polished MMO today, wait for a few patches. If you enjoy poking around ruins and can forgive early access rough edges, there is a lot to like here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ArcheAge Chronicles an MMO or a single-player game?

It is an online action MMORPG, so you play in shared channels of about 100 players per zone. Much of the content still works solo, and dungeons are instanced for one to four people. You can handle plenty alone, then group up for harder bosses and raids.

How much does ArcheAge Chronicles cost, and is there a subscription?

ArcheAge Chronicles costs $29.99 in North America, with regional pricing elsewhere and no monthly subscription. The developers say they will not sell items that buy power, though cash shop details remain thin. The price may also change at full release, and they promise advance notice first.

How do you unlock your first mount in ArcheAge Chronicles?

Follow the quests around Silent Crossway, clear the bandit camp, beat its boss, then continue the follow-up conversations until Well-Earned Reward completes. The mount comes from that quest chain, so skipping the camp means walking everywhere while everyone else rides past you looking smug.

What is the best starting class in ArcheAge Chronicles?

For a first character, Ranger is a forgiving choice because hatchets and the longbow cover close and long range. Warrior suits players comfortable with guarding and dodging up close. Mage needs careful stamina use while casting, and Berserker plays as a heavy frontline fighter.

Is open-world PvP forced in ArcheAge Chronicles?

No. Standard channels block player attacks entirely, while Conflict Channels let anyone outside your party and guild attack you. You switch at a Nui Statue, with a cooldown to stop channel hopping mid fight. The reward is bonus monster EXP, and the risk is losing some EXP and currency.

Will ArcheAge Chronicles wipe characters before full release?

XLGAMES has not published a firm answer on wiping Early Access characters before full release, so treat it as unknown. Demo progress did not carry over to Early Access. Early Access itself is planned to last around nine to 12 months, with more regions and features on the way.

Can you play ArcheAge Chronicles on console or Mac?

Right now, ArcheAge Chronicles runs only on Windows PC through Steam, and no Mac version is listed. PlayStation, Xbox and Epic Games listings exist only as wishlists with no dates. Full controller support is listed, so couch warriors can still use a gamepad on PC.

Your First Session Checklist

Agree on a server, pick a weapon style you like, and take the hidden ledger quest before leaving Watchtower of Hope. Then activate every Nui Statue, collect Nui Tears, get your glider, and work toward your mount at Silent Crossway. Save risky upgrades for gear you will keep, and enter Conflict Channels when you are ready for the consequences. Above all, look down the suspicious staircase. In ArcheAge Chronicles, it usually leads somewhere worth finding, and only sometimes to a pirate with paperwork.
