The Sneak Peek format — used each time a new anime season is approaching — screens first-ever episodes of upcoming shows, weeks before they're available to stream online. It's not reruns, not anniversary events, not compilation films. You're watching the actual premiere episode of a show before anyone at home has seen it.
I've made it to two of these events this year, and I'll say this: watching anime cold in a theater full of fans who don't know what's coming is a completely different experience from sitting at home with your feed already spoiled. The collective gasp when a premiere episode lands a hook is something streaming can't replicate.
📊 Key Stat: Crunchyroll Anime Nights now reaches more than 280 theaters across the U.S. and Canada — the program has grown significantly since its October 2025 debut with Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.
The Fall 2026 Sneak Peek Lineup: Every Title Explained
Five shows. One night. Here's what's actually screening on September 21, the confirmed production details, and why each one is worth showing up for.
Black Clover Season 2
The big one. Ayataka Tanemura — director of the original TV anime and the Sword of the Wizard King film — is back, with PIERROT FILMS animating. Asta's return picks up directly after episode 170 of the first season, adapting the manga from volume 28 onward including the Spade Kingdom arc. Streaming premiere: October 3, 2026 on Crunchyroll (English dub confirmed). The Anime Nights screening on September 21 is your only chance to see it first.
PSYREN
Studio Satelight adapts Toshiaki Iwashiro's cult-favorite Weekly Shonen Jump manga (2007–2010, 16 volumes, fully licensed by VIZ Media in English). High schooler Ageha Yoshina picks up a mysterious red phone card and gets dragged into a deadly survival game while searching for his missing childhood friend Sakurako Amamiya. The full manga story is confirmed to be adapted. Director Katsumi Ono leads the production, with Rikuya Yasuda voicing Ageha and Mayuko Kazama as Sakurako. Crunchyroll will stream worldwide (excluding Japan and China). Streaming premiere: October 2026. Long overdue for an anime adaptation — this is the sleeper pick of the night.
Firefly Wedding
David Production (the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure studio) animates this Meiji-era dark romance published by VIZ Media under their Shojo Beat line. Satoko, the sickly daughter of a noble family with a fatal heart condition, becomes the target of assassin Shinpei — and proposes marriage to him on the spot as her only way to survive. Sounds absurd. Probably going to be great. Streaming premiere: October 9, 2026 on Crunchyroll (English dub confirmed).
OVERGEARED
J.C. Staff adapts the hit Korean web novel by Saenal and webtoon by REDICE STUDIO and Team Argo — one of the biggest manhwa-to-anime adaptations following Solo Leveling. Director Ayako Kono (Sword Art Online Progressive) leads the production, with Kenta Ihara on series composition and Tatsumaru Tachibana voicing protagonist Grid. Youngwoo Shin is a struggling gamer who logs into the massively popular VR MMO Satisfy as Grid — mediocre at everything, until he stumbles onto a legendary blacksmith's lost knowledge and has to restart from level one to unlock it. The gamer power-fantasy crowd will be loud in that theater. Streaming premiere: October 2, 2026 on Crunchyroll.
The Vermilion Mask
Studio One Double-O's dark action title — confirmed as a two-part series — follows Peru, apprentice to legendary mask maker Gaston Roux. After being possessed by the cursed "Mask of the Warrior God" and unintentionally killing his companions and master, Peru swears to destroy every mask Gaston ever created, confronting his own sins as he goes. Stylistically the wildcard of the lineup. Streaming premiere: October 10, 2026 on Crunchyroll.
