Leonardo da Vinci has vanished, and the only things between you and his workshop are a doorbell, a mailbox, and a guard holding a suspiciously helpful scroll. This House of Da Vinci walkthrough covers all eight chapters of the 2017 puzzle adventure from Blue Brain Games, from the street outside in Florence, 1506, to the final Time Machine room. You will get the key answers, the hidden sketch locations, the best uses of both lenses, and a few warnings about the puzzles most likely to start a staring contest with your screen. Stuck on one room? Jump straight to that chapter. Want to solve it yourself? Read just the hint lines and keep the rest as a safety net.

⚡ Quick Answer

The House of Da Vinci is a puzzle adventure with eight chapters set in Florence, 1506. To beat it, collect the Oculi Infinitum in the Street, find the Oculi Tempus in the Library, then solve each room in order: Secret Workshop, Courtyard, Crypt, Armory, Tower, and Time Machine. Expect about five and a half hours.

What Is The House of Da Vinci and Which Game Does This Walkthrough Cover?

The House of Da Vinci is a first person 3D puzzle adventure from the Slovak indie studio Blue Brain Games, released on Steam on November 24, 2017. You play Leonardo's most promising apprentice, your master has gone missing, and his workshop is packed with locked boxes, hidden compartments, and machines that all want something from you.

This guide covers the first game only. The House of Da Vinci 2, The House of Da Vinci 3 and the VR version are separate releases with different puzzles, so a walkthrough for one will not match another. Game three, for example, swaps the lenses you use here for a device called the Oculus Perpetua.

"Use all your wits to find out what's behind your master's disappearance."

📊 Key Stat: The game was funded on Kickstarter in late 2016 by 2,391 backers, and 81 percent of its 2,761 English Steam reviews are positive.

How Do the Oculi Infinitum and Oculi Tempus Work?

Two lenses carry the whole game, and you collect them early. Learn them now and half the puzzles stop being mysteries.

  • Oculi Infinitum: a see through lens. It reveals hidden codes, glowing outlines, and the moving parts inside a lock or machine. You find it in the mailbox in Chapter 1, and in Chapter 2 you get the glove it mounts on.
  • Oculi Tempus: a time lens. You trace a glowing shape, then drag a timeline back to watch what used to be there, such as a flat sheet of paper, a flowing liquid, or a sketch taking shape. You pick it up from a book in the Library.

💡 Pro Tip: Whenever you meet a dial, wheel or lever that does nothing useful, raise the Oculi Infinitum before you do anything else. If a puzzle needs a time vision, the Oculi Tempus gives you the answer in seconds.

House of Da Vinci Walkthrough: How Do You Beat Every Chapter?

The game is linear, so each chapter is one big escape room with its own chain of tools and locks. The steps below follow the order the game expects. I kept them short and listed the answers you are most likely to need.

Chapter 1: Street

  1. Take the scroll: grab it from the guard, then slide off the ribbon and read it.
  2. Ring the bell: on the doorbell, turn the top part right and the bottom part left until the side arms drop, then pull the chain. A small metal object falls out.
  3. Open the mailbox: spin the lid, take the key piece, and slide it together with the metal object to make a full key. Slide the front cover left, turn the key, and take the Oculi Infinitum.
  4. Blow the door: look at the door through the lens and rotate the three discs until their openings point to the middle. Yes, an explosion is your welcome gift.

Chapter 2: Library

  1. Collect the sketch: the Printing Press drawing sits in the left bookcase, so grab it before you do anything else.
  2. Build the seal: slide the seal off the scroll on the lamp post and rotate its middle section until the arrows form a three spoked seal. Use it on the green pedestal, then solve the coloured stone puzzle inside the bust to get the glove.
  3. Make the wooden rose: use the Oculi Infinitum on the bust helmet gears, then on the ivory case, and collect the pieces of a rose ornament plus a screw. Assemble it and place it in the lamp post to slide it through four panels for a small key.
  4. Run the light beam: the key opens the ivory case and gives you a seal for the lamp. Guide the beam through the prisms. One route that works is 7, 8, 4, 9, 5, 1, 6, 2, 3.
  5. Find the time lens: take the lit leather book, open its spine, read the letter and take the Oculi Tempus. Trace the glowing corner, watch the timeline, press the wall panel and push the bookcase open.

Chapter 3: Secret Workshop

  1. Fire the catapult: rotate the soldiers on the siege tower until a third appears, take its wheel, open the catapult arm and fire it to light the first lamp. The File Cutter sketch is on the shelves nearby.
  2. Open the giant globe: match the pattern on top, take the metal sun, and attach the small metal part to make a sun key. Align the three discs, insert the key and open the shell.
  3. Crack the four word code: use the Oculi Tempus on the crumpled paper to read TERRA, LAPIS, SIDUS and IGNIS. Enter each word with the Oculi Infinitum on the four disc rings. Two of the rings are covered, so open the iris first on each, and one needs a flower ornament to turn it.
  4. Conquer Europe: the globe becomes a strategy map. Make the move sets it asks for in three rounds, using a wooden tool from the first round to unlock more towers.
  5. Beat the Towers of Hanoi puzzle: move the tiles to the middle stack, then use the crank with the Oculi Infinitum to line up the images and light the second flame.
  6. Solve the cabinet of shapes: a tall cabinet wants a tetrahedron, a hexahedron, a sphere, a dodecahedron and an octahedron, each unlocked by a four tile sliding puzzle. The last shape gives you a ram's head and a large gear.
  7. Finish the room: use the Oculi Tempus on the golden castle, line up the statues with the glowing outlines, and rebuild the Vitruvian Man drawing on the goblet pedestal to open the secret passage.

Chapter 4: Courtyard

  1. Dismantle the scythe: pull the pin from the left statue, tilt the plates, and complete the handle. Use it on the door disc to lower a shaft, then build a screwdriver from the folding grip.
  2. Get the strange key: unscrew the scythe blade, take the key, and pull both of its bits down to complete it.
  3. Open the hourglass: use the key on the right statue's hourglass to get a lettered cylinder. Check the statue's hand with the Oculi Infinitum to see MORS, then set the cylinder to match.
  4. Use the skull: take the lever and the ornamental handle, then press the three matching buttons on the step in the order 3, 2, 1.
  5. Win the disc puzzle: build the mechanism with the shaft, handle and lever, take the ornamental disc, put it in the door and use the lens to make three pairs of matching symbols.

Chapter 5: Crypt

This is the longest and most tangled chapter. It is basically one giant sarcophagus that you rebuild piece by piece, so keep your inventory tidy.

  1. Open the chest: take the sword from the armor and slot it into the sarcophagus. Work through the wooden box's drawers and hidden hatches for a spring, a cross shaped piece and a folding key, then solve the sliding puzzle for a wolf's head and a metal tool with arms.
  2. Build the spring lighter: use the tool on the breastplate to get a flint and steel base, then add the spring. Slide the painting corner for a mechanism part and add the wolf's head to the sarcophagus for a gear and a brass cross.
  3. Light the fireplace: fit the gear, open the gate, load the lighter and set the straw alight. Take the wheel, turn it into a pulley, and put it in the knight. He stands up and gives you your first lever. The Viola Organista sketch is on the skull shelves behind you.
  4. Raise the three cages: a small cabinet has three slots. Each lever you find raises one cage over the sarcophagus, and each cage opens a new tower puzzle.
  5. Solve the towers: finish the circuit with the Oculi Infinitum, then set the tower numbers to the Fibonacci sequence: I, II, III, V, VIII, XIII. Arrange the lettered cube, then place the cogwheel to open the chest of the empty flask and a four tipped medallion.
  6. Place the shields: in the maze, the triangle goes left, the diamond bottom and the hexagon top. Slide each to the end of its path.
  7. Fill the flask: put the medallion in the desk cabinet and rotate the four coloured discs until each is surrounded by matching colours. Use the Oculi Tempus on the valve to see the liquid flow, copy the handle positions, then pump and heat the machine with the lighter.
  8. Finish the palace: set the weight tool to four points and open the knight's helmet, complete the star with the lens, and take the special key for the large lens. Focus the fire's light on the palace, press the six shields in the order 5, 6, 4, 1, 2, 3 (5, 4, 6, 1, 2, 3 also works), and slide the red piece to the top of the back puzzle.

⚠️ Important: Take the spring lighter back from the fireplace box before you leave. You need it again for the boiler in this same chapter, and walking back is a classic way to lose ten minutes.

Chapter 6: Armory

  1. Get the emerald: open the cube on the big table for a small key, then drag the green emerald all the way through the maze on the standing board.
  2. Learn the pattern: three skulls are etched on the tank and two rabbits sit under the table. Take the metal cross, use it on the small box under the table for a wheel, and turn it at the shutters.
  3. Open the drawbridge: turn the four winches to show skull, rabbit, skull, rabbit, skull. The Scythed Chariot sketch is on top of the standing barrel nearby.
  4. Crack the chest: rotate the five rings so the openings appear in the order 2, 1, 3, 4, 5, take the handle, then press the small square brick above the lock. Use the key on the chest for a dagger with a ruby fitting and a metal lever.
  5. Make the heavy lever: place the emerald and ruby fittings in the two circles at the small table, turn them to the matching slots, and take the metal head. Add the wooden handle to build a lever with a massive head.
  6. Open the tank and fire the cannons: use the Oculi Infinitum on the hatch lock, slide the pins into place, then use your big lever. Inside, load gunpowder and a cannonball, aim, and smash every clay pot.
  7. Finish the chapter: clear the latches on the window chest for a crank, climb the tank stairs, and turn the crank until the arrow points far left.

Chapter 7: Tower

  1. Climb in: slide the window frame parts apart and climb through. The Revolving Bridge sketch is behind the frame on the wall to your right. A small machine on the platform rotates the stairs, so remember it.
  2. Open the wardrobe and strongbox: spin the golden disc rings to release a square medallion, then guide it across a four level path puzzle where you cross every space once.
  3. Build the dial machine: take the cogwheel from the cabinet, use the Oculi Infinitum to find the paper with four glowing symbols, and enter them in order: hexagon, circle, diamond, square.
  4. Use the astrolabe: insert the silver disc and use the Oculi Tempus to line the four markers at the top, then match that on the round machine. Set the four dials to a full white moon, a full yellow moon, a half white moon and a crescent yellow moon.
  5. Repeat for the second set: after the cross key, line the markers just left of the bottom and set the dials to white crescent, white gibbous, a larger white crescent and a yellow crescent. Take the ironbound wheel and rebuild the stairs.

💡 Pro Tip: The moon puzzles are fussy about position. If your dial looks right but nothing happens, nudge it a hair in either direction before you assume your answer is wrong.

Chapter 8: Time Machine

  1. Collect the Flying Machine sketch: it is at the bottom of the small bookcase just right of the boiler.
  2. Align the three pipes: the boiler front has three parts marked I, II and III. For each pipe, use the Oculi Infinitum and line up the inner mechanisms with the wheels and levers. The tumbler wall by the gate needs a cogwheel from pipe II.
  3. Study the liquids: collect the green drip from pipe III, then use the microscope to inspect it. Later you fill a second vial and count the shapes: 8 tetrahedra, 4 dodecahedra and 2 octahedra.
  4. Enter the code: the shape counts give you 428. Set the three symbol dials to match the model's sails: dodecahedron looks like an h, octahedron like a saxophone and tetrahedron like a simple loop.
  5. Fire the boiler: pump the handle five times, light the six flames in two rounds, and swap in the replacement lighter from the cabinet when the fourth one breaks.
  6. Set the final gauges: use the Oculi Tempus to watch the splatter vision, set the gauges to match, and pull the large lever.

Where Are All the Hidden Sketches and Achievements?

Steam lists six achievements, and the ones visible on its store page are named after Leonardo's sketches. The game hides six sketches, so grabbing every one is the safest way to cover the list. Here is where each lives.

Chapter Sketch Where to look
2: Library Printing Press Left bookcase, on the right side of the shelf
3: Secret Workshop File Cutter Set of shelves left of the lamp near the globe
5: Crypt Viola Organista Shelves of skulls behind the fireplace
6: Armory Scythed Chariot On top of the standing barrel near the drawbridge
7: Tower Revolving Bridge Behind the frame against the wall, right of the stairs
8: Time Machine Flying Machine Bottom of the small bookcase right of the boiler

Why Do Players Get Stuck in The House of Da Vinci?

In my experience, the logic is rarely the problem. The real puzzle is tracking where every tool belongs. When I replayed the Crypt, I lost far more time hunting for a lighter I had already used than I did solving the puzzle that needed it. Every chapter is a chain: one object opens a drawer, that drawer holds a tool, and that tool fits a hole you saw twenty minutes ago.

That gives you a simple rule that goes beyond any single walkthrough. If something has a hole, a slot or a lock, write down where it is the moment you see it. The game keeps items in your inventory only until they are used, so an unused object is always a clue to something you have already walked past. A few traps catch most players:

  • The forgotten lighter: take it back from the fireplace box in Chapter 5 because the boiler needs it later.
  • The fussy moons: the Tower dials need exact placement, and the final Tower puzzles lean on trial and error more than the earlier chapters do.
  • The pipe II levers: one player reported that messing with them early in Chapter 8 jammed them and forced a restart of the chapter.
  • Hints that nudge, not solve: some players say the in game hints are too vague, so a walkthrough ends up filling the gap.

Is The House of Da Vinci Worth Playing in 2026?

Yes, if you like tactile, mechanical escape room puzzles. It sits close to the hands on puzzle box style of The Room series, and it is priced at $19.99 on the official Steam page, though it often goes on sale. The main story runs around five and a half hours, so you are paying for a short, dense adventure, not a marathon.

My honest take: the first half is the strongest part. The Library, Secret Workshop and Courtyard chain their puzzles with real logic, while the last few chapters lean on trial and error and a few fiddly dials. It is still a solid pick if you want Leonardo's inventions turned into hands on riddles. The story ends on a hook that leads into the sequel, so be ready to keep going.

If you finish and want more, here is how the series fits together:

Frequently Asked Questions

How many chapters are in The House of Da Vinci?

The House of Da Vinci has eight chapters, running from the street outside Leonardo's workshop to the final Time Machine room. They are Street, Library, Secret Workshop, Courtyard, Crypt, Armory, Tower, and Time Machine. Chapters play in that order. With about five and a half hours of main story, expect roughly 40 minutes per chapter.

How long does The House of Da Vinci take to beat?

Most players finish the main story in around five and a half hours. Slower, more careful players report anywhere from five to ten hours, especially if they stop to admire the scenery or get stuck on the Tower astrolabe or Armory emerald maze. Collecting the hidden sketches happens during the normal run.

What platforms is The House of Da Vinci on?

The House of Da Vinci launched on Steam on November 24, 2017, and also runs on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series consoles, iOS, and Android. A free iOS demo covers only the first level. Mac players can use the Steam version, and a separate VR version arrived in December 2024.

Do I need to play the first game before The House of Da Vinci 2?

Play this one first. The second game picks up where the first ends, and the third game is billed as the grand finale of the trilogy. Starting later means missing setup. The VR version is a separate adaptation of the first game.

What do the two lenses do in The House of Da Vinci?

The Oculi Infinitum lets you see through surfaces to spot hidden mechanisms, codes, and moving parts inside devices. The Oculi Tempus lets you trace a shape and scrub through a timeline to watch past events, such as liquid flowing or paper unwrinkling. You find the first in Chapter 1 and the second in Chapter 2.

How many achievements does The House of Da Vinci have?

Steam lists six achievements, and the four shown on its store page are named after Leonardo sketches. The game hides six sketches across chapters 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8, so grabbing all of them is the safest way to clear the list. Check each shelf, barrel, and bookcase before you leave an area.

Can The House of Da Vinci get stuck or bugged?

One player reported that moving the pipe II levers the wrong way at the start of Chapter 8 left them stuck and forced a chapter restart. Take the cogwheel first, then use the Oculi Infinitum to align the levers rather than moving them blindly.

Ready to Step Into Leonardo's Workshop?

Leonardo's workshop rewards patience more than genius. Keep track of every hole and slot, use the lenses on anything that moves, and grab the six sketches as you go. The early chapters are the best part of the game, the Tower will test your nerves, and the Time Machine finale pays off the whole journey. If you have not played it yet, you can pick it up on the official Steam page and come back here when a puzzle bites.
