You've outrun a slithering Brontosaurus and dodged an Allosaurus that treats you like a chew toy. Now you're asking the most 1992 question possible: is there a better ending? Terrible Lizards launched on October 29, 2026, and players are already hunting down every boss and ending. Here's the short version: three dinosaur bosses, zero weapons, one ending. This guide covers all bosses and endings in Terrible Lizards. You'll learn how to survive each encounter, what the finale actually means, and what you unlock after the credits, including New Game Plus modifiers and a few sneaky achievements. The ending section is clearly marked, so you can bail before the spoilers if you're still mid run.

⚡ Quick Answer

Terrible Lizards has three bosses: the Brontosaurus (Levels 1 and 2), the Allosaurus (Level 3) and the Dilophosaurus Hybrid, the final boss in Level 4. You cannot fight any of them; you escape with parkour and finish objectives. There is only one ending. Beat all four levels to see it, unlock the Finally achievement and open New Game Plus.

How Many Bosses and Endings Are in Terrible Lizards?

Terrible Lizards is a first person horror parkour game from WDR Studios. The studio was founded by the duo behind JT Music, and the game is published by Digital Pajamas with Behaviour Interactive. The campaign runs across four levels. It starts in a sunny, kitschy Route 66 dinosaur attraction called Dalton's Dinos and sinks into dig sites, rail tunnels and glowing caverns that visitors were never meant to see.

The game foreshadows its whole boss roster in the first room. The lobby foyer displays skeletons of three dinosaur species, and those three are exactly the monsters that hunt you later. The game was basically handing you the cast list and you walked right past it to look at the gift shop.

Boss Where You Face It Encounter Type How You Survive
Paleo Pal mascot (warm up) Gift shop, Level 1 Pursuit during the fuse puzzle Grab a fuse, build distance, then stop at the box
Brontosaurus End of Level 1, all of Level 2 Chases, hunts, dynamite arena Move carefully while it searches, sprint once it commits
Allosaurus Level 3 train tunnels and rail caverns Open hunts with objectives Break line of sight between every objective
Dilophosaurus Hybrid Stalks early, final boss in Level 4 Finale race to the crew lift Wall run to the moving lift and never stop

Terrible Lizards All Bosses: How Do You Beat Each One?

You never kill anything in this game. There are no weapons, no health bars and no inventory. Each boss is an escape sequence or an arena where you finish objectives while something huge breathes down your neck. The creatures are faster than you in a straight line, so you win by picking smart routes, not by outrunning them. The good news is that checkpoints are generous, and death usually costs you a minute or two at most.

Warm Up Act: The Paleo Pal in the Gift Shop

Before any dinosaur shows up, one of the park's costumed mascots chases you during the gift shop fuse puzzle. Treat it as a tutorial for every hunt that follows. Grab a fuse, break line of sight, and only stop at a fuse box once you have real distance. While you're in the attraction, press every mascot talk box you pass to earn the Paleo Pal Review achievement.

Boss 1: The Brontosaurus (Levels 1 and 2)

This is the largest monster in the game. Its legs have withered, so it crawls toward you like a colossal snake, and its nostrils look unsettlingly like a skull. It debuts at the end of Level 1 during the gift shop floodlight sequence. Stella, your voice on the headset, thinks the floodlights will scare it off. They do the opposite. The lights send it into a rage, it tears Dalton's Dinos apart, and you dive underground as the building collapses behind you.

Level 2 is the Bronto's home turf. You'll restart generators, climb the foreman's tower, cross flooded caverns, survive a chase after grabbing the gondola key, and finish in the dynamite arena. There you plant explosives to blast through a blocked path while it prowls around you. Clearing that arena unlocks That's DINO-mite!

  • Standing water next to downed cables means electricity. Find the breaker or another route; don't wade in.
  • During hunts, creep while it searches and sprint the moment it locks on.
  • Squeeze gaps are your friend. The Bronto is far too big to follow you through narrow cracks in the wall.

Boss 2: The Allosaurus (Level 3)

The Allosaurus is as strong as the Bronto but much smarter. It sets ambushes and seems to enjoy toying with its prey. The studio's creature lead picked it as a personal favorite, describing it as cool and lethal. It drives the open hunt sections in the train tunnels, the freight area and the rail cavern. In the second hunt, you carry four fuses to a rail panel while it patrols. Version 1.0.9 fixed a bug where not every fuse registered, so update the game if your panel refuses to cooperate. An Allosaurus tooth later works as a key item, which is rude but fair.

Final Boss: The Dilophosaurus Hybrid (Level 4)

The Hybrid is the face of the marketing and the stuff of nightmares. It has a Dilophosaurus head on a humanoid body, long claws, and an actual human face hidden inside its throat. Artist RJ Palmer led the design, and its ribcage was modeled on a coral reef skeleton. You glimpse it early on, but the real confrontation is the Level 4 finale at the crew lift camp. That sequence is a race back to a moving elevator, and it rewards everything the game has taught you about wall running.

💡 Pro Tip: Stuck at a keypad? Players have been using 9216 at reception, 1903 for the gift shop basement (the clue sits right by the keypad) and 0451 at the foreman's tower. Immersive sim fans will recognize that last one, and the developers have confirmed they hid BioShock nods throughout the game.

Which Terrible Lizards Boss Is the Hardest?

When I first hit the gift shop floodlights, I did exactly what Stella told me. I flipped them on and watched a skyscraper sized noodle with a skull for a nose completely lose its mind. In my experience, the Brontosaurus stretch in Level 2 is where most of the deaths happen. The gondola chase and the flooded caverns punish any hesitation, and I unlocked Join Us for a Bite before I'd even learned to slide properly. The Hybrid finale felt easier by comparison, because by Level 4 the game has drilled wall runs into your thumbs.

The launch data backs that up. Here's how many Steam players had cleared each level two days after release:

Level Main Threat Achievement Players Cleared
1: Dalton's Dinos Brontosaurus escape Welcome to the Underground 73.3%
2: The Digsites Brontosaurus hunts, dynamite arena That's DINO-mite! 41.9%
3: Rail and Freight Caverns Allosaurus hunts Slime-o-saurus 18.9%
4: The Deep Dilophosaurus Hybrid finale Finally 14.4%

Look at the gap between Levels 3 and 4: only 4.5 points. Once players survive the Allosaurus, nearly all of them go on to finish the game. The big drops come earlier, in the Brontosaurus stretch. Early numbers lean toward the fastest players and will shift over the coming weeks, but the pattern is clear. The final boss is the most dramatic fight, and the Bronto is the one that breaks people.

📊 Key Stat: Only 14.4% of Steam players had unlocked Finally, the achievement for beating the game, by October 31, 2026. Every collectible achievement sat at just 0.2% to 0.3%.

How Does Terrible Lizards End? The Ending Explained

⚠️ Important: Full ending spoilers start here. Skip to the New Game Plus section if you haven't finished Level 4.

The story takes place on September 19, 1992. Jordan, a stranded college student voiced by Kellen Goff, takes a call from Stella (Amanda Hufford). She asks him to find the park's owner, Dalton Coolidge, and his young son, Dalton Jr., or DJ. As you descend, the notes and video tapes fill in the rot underneath. Dalton's team dug too deep, found an ancient glowing goo, and kept digging on a mysterious backer's money while workers died. You also learn that DJ's imaginary friend Dennis was never imaginary. Dennis is the Hybrid.

Partway down, the Allosaurus kills Dalton. Jordan could leave at that point. Instead, he chooses to stay so DJ won't be alone, and that choice is the emotional core of the whole game.

In the finale, DJ hides while Jordan restores the crew lift camp lights, blasts into Cavern B for the lift key, and starts the lift with DJ aboard. The Hybrid throws Jordan off. You wall run your way back onto the moving elevator, and when the Hybrid tries to climb on after you, it misses the jump and falls into the caverns. A dark passage, a short cave and one ladder later, Jordan reaches the surface. Stella's car is waiting right there, and the credits roll over an original JT Music song, Yellow Line.

The ending is bittersweet. Dalton and his staff are gone, but his last wish comes true because his son makes it out. I read the three bosses as stages of Dalton's downfall. The Brontosaurus is the stubborn dig that wouldn't stop. The Allosaurus is the ego that got him killed. The Hybrid is the son he neglected, whose only friend turned out to be the monster. The game leaves the bigger questions open on purpose: who funded the dig, and what the goo really is. One popular player theory holds that the goo is a living organism controlling the dead dinosaurs.

"It'll become pretty clear who knows what's happening as you play through the game."

Lead developer, WDR Studios, answering fans in the studio's October 2026 developer Q&A

Not everyone loved the landing. Several reviewers called the conclusion abrupt, and plenty of players are joking about how conveniently Stella's car is parked at the exit. Fair. After four levels of everything exploding, the game earned one thing going right.

How to Get the Terrible Lizards Ending and Unlock New Game Plus

Because there is only one ending, getting it simply means surviving every boss in order. Here's the full path, with the rewards you collect along the way:

  1. Enter Dalton's Dinos: This unlocks Welcome to Dalton's Dinos, which also triggers the Dead by Daylight badge and banner codes.
  2. Survive the gift shop Bronto: Escape the collapse to finish Level 1 and earn Welcome to the Underground.
  3. Blow up the dynamite arena: Clear Level 2 to earn That's DINO-mite! This also triggers the Dead by Daylight charm code.
  4. Outsmart the Allosaurus: Deliver all four fuses and finish Level 3 for Slime-o-saurus.
  5. Win the crew lift race: Escape the Hybrid to see the ending, earn Finally and unlock New Game Plus.
  6. Hunt amber for modifiers: Every fourth amber unlocks a New Game Plus modifier: bodycam view, slippery surfaces, a mode where stopping kills you, or low gravity. You can stack them.

Going for 100%? The game has 15 achievements on Steam and Xbox (1,000 Gamerscore) and 16 trophies on PS5, including a platinum. Collect amber first, because it pays off twice: once for the Bingo, Dino DNA achievement and again for the modifiers. The developers haven't said whether collectibles carry over into New Game Plus, so grab what you can on your first run.

Is There a Secret Ending in Terrible Lizards?

No. The developers confirmed one main ending. Branching choices were planned early in development and then cut for scope. If you've seen pages listing a Coexistence ending, a pacifist route or an island founder's journals, ignore them. The game takes place in New Mexico, has no dialogue choices, and doesn't even give you the option to fight, so a "pacifist route" is just the game. Optional notes and tapes deepen the lore, but they don't change the finale.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many endings does Terrible Lizards have?

Terrible Lizards has one main ending. The developers planned branching choices early in production but cut them for scope, so every player sees the same finale after finishing Level 4. Collectibles add lore and New Game Plus modifiers, but they do not unlock a secret or alternate ending.

Who is the final boss in Terrible Lizards?

The final boss is the Dilophosaurus Hybrid, a half human, half dinosaur creature with a human face hidden inside its throat. You face it in Level 4 during a frantic race back to the crew lift. Like every boss in the game, you escape it with parkour instead of fighting it.

Can you fight the dinosaurs in Terrible Lizards?

No. Terrible Lizards has no weapons and no combat system at all. Every boss encounter is a chase or an objective arena where you run, slide, climb and wall run to survive. The creatures are faster than you in a straight line, so smart routes beat raw speed.

How long does it take to beat Terrible Lizards?

The developers estimate six to ten hours for a first playthrough across four levels. Critics finished in roughly six to eight hours, while a full collectible run takes longer because the amber, notes, tapes and stuffed animals are spread across every level. New Game Plus adds replay time on top.

What does New Game Plus unlock in Terrible Lizards?

Beating the game unlocks New Game Plus. Every fourth piece of amber you collect unlocks a modifier: bodycam view, slippery surfaces, a mode where stopping kills you, and low gravity. The developers say you can stack modifiers together, which turns familiar boss chases into fresh chaos.

Is Terrible Lizards on Xbox Game Pass?

Yes. Terrible Lizards launched day one on Xbox Game Pass on October 29, 2026, covering Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It also supports Xbox Play Anywhere. On PlayStation 5 and Steam, the standard price is $24.99, and it is a single player game on every platform.

Does Terrible Lizards have a post credits scene?

No post credits scene has been found so far. The credits roll after Jordan reaches the surface beside Stella's car, set to an original credits song. Some players expected a bonus scene tied to the collectibles, but completing everything currently earns achievements and modifiers, not extra story.

Final Thoughts on Every Boss and Ending

Terrible Lizards keeps things refreshingly simple: three dinosaur bosses, one ending, and no way to fight back. The real challenge is the Brontosaurus stretch, not the finale, so if you've beaten the Allosaurus, you're almost home. After the credits, New Game Plus and its stackable modifiers give you a reason to go back in, ideally with low gravity turned on so you can feel like the dinosaur for once. If you haven't jumped in yet, you can grab Terrible Lizards on Steam and see how long you last.
