Regulus Corneas wields the Authority of Greed, commonly called Lion's Heart. This ability allows him to suspend his heart outside the normal flow of time, making his body immune to all physical harm while the power is active. No wound, no force, and no attack can touch him in this state. He can also extend this effect to other people and objects, granting them the same invincibility. This makes Regulus Corneas nearly impossible to defeat in direct combat. The key vulnerability, which his enemies eventually exploit, is that his wives also carry his borrowed heartbeat. Freeing them removes his distributed power and forces him back into normal time, finally making him mortal.

The debate over whether Regulus Corneas is the most powerful Sin Archbishop is one of the most popular ongoing discussions in his anime's fan community. In terms of direct physical confrontation, his Lion's Heart ability makes him arguably the hardest Archbishop to defeat, since no conventional attack can harm him while the power is running. However, the Gluttony Archbishops can consume a person's name and memories entirely, which represents a completely different category of threat. Most community rankings place Regulus Corneas among the top two or three most formidable Archbishops, with debates centering on whether raw physical invincibility outweighs abilities that target the soul or identity rather than the body.

The wives of Regulus Corneas are one of the most haunting elements of his characterization. By granting them his suspended heartbeat, he places each wife in a frozen state where they cannot eat, sleep, age, or experience life in any meaningful way. To Regulus Corneas, this is the ultimate protective gift, power freely extended to people he has chosen. In reality, he treats his wives as possessions he has decided to preserve, not as human beings with their own rights. This captures the hypocrisy that defines him as a villain. He delivers lengthy speeches about freedom and personal rights, yet every action he takes violates those exact principles. His wives are the clearest and most painful symbol of that contradiction.

The defeat of Regulus Corneas is celebrated as one of the cleverest moments in his anime series. Because his Authority of Greed works by distributing his suspended heartbeat across his many wives, freeing those wives removes that distributed power. The protagonist coordinates with a powerful spirit contractor to locate every single wife using a tracking ability. Once all the wives are freed and their borrowed heartbeats return to Regulus Corneas, he is forced to experience time normally again and becomes fully vulnerable for the first time. The scene is praised specifically because it uses the character's own defining obsession, his need to possess and control others, as the very thing that leads to his downfall.

Yes, Regulus Corneas is confirmed dead. His story ends decisively with his defeat at the hands of the main cast, and he does not return in any subsequent season or arc of the source material. That said, his legacy in the anime community has only grown since his defeat. He remains a frequently searched character, and discussions about his power level, his iconic monologues, and the brilliance of his eventual downfall continue to generate high engagement across forums and social platforms.
